Situato sul Golfo di Taranto, San Pietro in Bevagna è oggi un esteso insediamento di ville che si anima a seconda della stagione. La Torre San Pietro, oggi chiesa e restaurata con cura, è il centro dell’incantevole villaggio ed è circondata da case e ville un tempo „selvagge“.

Naturalmente, l’attrazione principale è la spiaggia di sabbia fine di San Pietro in Bevagna, lunga circa 10 km e affacciata sul Mar Ionio. È ovvio che la città si è dedicata al turismo e ci sono molte opportunità lungo la strada costiera. Ma San Pietro offre anche la tranquillità e l’ospitalità del sud.

Naturalmente va menzionato anche il fiume Chidro, che scorre per chilometri nel sottosuolo italiano per poi affiorare nella riserva naturale di San Pietro in Bevagna, vicino al mare. Da lì, l’acqua ghiacciata sfocia direttamente nel Mar Ionio. Nei mesi caldi, i turisti si ritrovano lì per rinfrescarsi con un tuffo nel Chidro. Il fiume Chidro è anche protagonista di numerose leggende qui nel Salento. La storia di questo corso d’acqua sembra addirittura legata a San Pietro Apostolo, che di ritorno a Roma si fermò alla sua foce per impartire i primi battesimi a tutti gli abitanti di Bevagna dell’epoca. Da qui il nome San Pietro.

Proseguendo lungo la strada costiera, il sentiero conduce attraverso la Specchiarica alla successiva riserva naturale. Un’antica salina oggi abitata da fenicotteri e da una varietà di specie senza pari. Il percorso conduce all’idilliaco villaggio di pescatori di Torre Colimena. Qui si trova il famoso tonno rosso e, naturalmente, la Torre. Il porto è di vecchia scuola e merita una visita, così come i numerosi ristoranti di pesce sono altamente raccomandati. Da qui si può proseguire fino a Punta Prosciutto, con diversi ristoranti e bistrot direttamente sulla spiaggia con tavoli o lettini.

Anche il porto di Porto Cesareo merita una visita, perché il giovedì c’è sempre un mercato proprio sul porto. Lungo la baia, i pescatori stanno davanti alle loro barche sul molo e offrono in vendita il loro pescato fresco. Porto Cesareo è sempre un’esperienza da vivere, perché la città ha un fascino meraviglioso. Nel centro si trova una strada con soli pescivendoli e ristoranti di pesce, sensazionale.

Am Golf von Taranto gelegen ist San Pietro in Bevagna heute eine weitläufige Villensiedlung die je nach Saison gefüllt ist mit ausgeprägtem Leben ist. Um die einstmals „Wild“ erbauten Strandhäuser und Villen ist der liebevoll restaurierte Torre San Pietro, der heute eine Kirche ist, der Mittelpunkt des reizvollen Ortes.

Natürlich ist der etwa ca. 10 km lange, feinsandige Strand von San Pietro in Bevagna und das Ionische Meer die Hauptattraktion. Selbstverständlich hat man sich auf das touristische Leben eingestellt und entlang der Küstenstraße bieten sich eine Vielzahl von Möglichkeiten. Aber San Pietro bietet auch die Ruhe und Gastfreundlichkeit des Südens.

Natürlich muss man auch den Fluss Chidro erwähnen, dieser Fluss fließt kilometerlang unterirdisch durch Italien und tritt dann im Naturschutzgebiet von San Pietro in Bevagna in der Nähe des Meeres an die Oberfläche. Das eiskalte Wasser fließt von dort dann direkt in das ionische Meer. In den heißen Monaten versammeln sich dort die Touristen um sich mit einem Sprung in den Chidro abzukühlen. Der Fluss Chidro ist auch der Protagonist der zahlreichen Legenden, hier im Salento. Die Geschichte dieses Wasserlaufs scheint sogar mit dem heiligen Apostel Petrus verbunden zu sein, der auf seiner Rückkehr nach Rom an seiner Mündung Halt machte, um seine ersten Taufen für alle Einwohner des damaligen Bevagna durchzuführen. Daher der Name, San Pietro.

Weiter entlang der Küstenstraße führt der Weg durch die Specchiarica zum nächsten Naturschutzgebiet. Einer alten Saline die heute von Flamingos und einer Artenvielfalt bewohnt wird, die seinesgleichen sucht. Der Weg führt in das idyllische Fischdorf Torre Colimena. Dort gibt es den berühmten roten Tunfisch und natürlich den Torre. Der Hafen ist Old School und sehenswert, auch die vielen Fischrestaurants sind sehr zu empfehlen. Von dort weiter kommt man nach Punta Prosciutto mit mehreren Restaurants und Bistros direkt am Strand mit Tischen oder Liegebetten ausgestattet.

Sehenswert ist auch der Hafen in Porto Cesareo, dort ist immer Donnerstag der Markt direkt am Hafen. Entlang der Bucht stehen die Fischern vor ihren Booten am Pier und bieteni hren tagesfrischen Fang zum Kauf an. Porto Cesareo ist immer wieder ein Erlebnis, denn die Stadt hat ein wunderbares Flair. Im Zentrum finden Sie eine Straße nur mit Fisch-Händler und Fisch-Restaurants, sensationell.

Of course, the main attraction of San Pietro in Bevagna is the approximately 7 miles long, fine sandy beach and the Ionian Sea. Of course, it has been prepared for the tourist life and along the coastal road there are a lot of possibilities. But San Pietro also offers the tranquility and hospitality of the south.

Of course, one must also mention the river Chidro, this river flows underground for kilometers through Italy and then comes to the surface in the nature reserve of San Pietro in Bevagna near the sea.

The ice-cold water then flows from there directly into the Ionian Sea. In the hot months, tourists gather there to cool off by jumping into the Chidro. The river Chidro  is also the protagonist of the numerous legends, here in Salento. The history of this watercourse even seems to be linked to Saint Peter the Apostle, who, on his return to Rome, stopped at its mouth to perform his first baptisms for all the inhabitants of what was then Bevagna. Hence the name, San Pietro.

Continuing along the coastal road, the path leads through Specchiarica to the next nature reserve.

An old saltworks that today is inhabited by flamingos and a biodiversity that has no equal. The path leads to the idyllic fishing village of Torre Colimena. There you can find the famous red tuna and of course the Torre. The harbor is old school and worth seeing, also the many Fischrestaurantes are highly recommended.

From there you can get to Punta Prosciutto with several restaurants and bistros directly on the beach equipped with tables or sun beds.

Worth seeing is also the port in Porto Cesareo, there is always Thursday the market directly at the port. Along the bay the fishermen stand in front of their boats at the pier and offer their daily fresh catch for sale.

Porto Cesareo is always an experience, because the city has a wonderful flair. In the center you will find a street only with fish traders and fish restaurants, sensational.
